Thisvillagewasanisolatedplacewheretheresidentsheldontoancienttraditionalbeliefsandwaysoflife.Althoughwemadegreateffortslasttime,onlyafewpeoplewerewillingtochange.Thistime,wehopedtoconvincemorepeople.
Ourteamconsistedofsocialworkers,psychologists,andvolunteers.Beforeenteringthevillage,weunderwentmonthsoftrainingandpreparationtobettercopewithchallengesanddifficulties.
Wefirstsetupatemporaryofficeinthevillagecentersothattheresidentscouldcommunicatewithus.Wealsoorganizedlecturesandworkshopstointroducethemtothechangesinmodernsocietyandnewwaysoflife.Throughtheseactivities,wetriedtomaketheresidentsrealizetheimportanceofchangeandprovidedthemwithsomeadviceandsupport.
However,wesoonrealizedthatchangewasaverydifficultthing.Inthisvillage,manypeoplewereunwillingtoleavetheirfamiliarwaysoflifeandthinkingpatterns.Theybelievedthattheuncertaintyandinsecuritybroughtbychangewerefargreaterthanthestabilityofthestatusquo.Ourwordsandeffortsposedgreatchallengestomanyofthem.
Werealizedthatpreachingalonewasnotenoughtochangeothers'beliefsandbehaviors.Weneededamorestrategicapproach.Therefore,webegantobuildcloserrelationshipswiththeresidents,listeningtotheirconfusionandpain,andtryingtounderstandtheirvaluesandbeliefs.
Throughcommunicationwiththeresidents,wegraduallyrealizedthatchangeisacomplexprocessthattakestimeandpatience.Westartedtoworkwiththem,seekingsmallandachievablechangestohelpthemgraduallyadapttothechangesinmodernsociety.Wedidn'taskthemtochangealltheirbeliefsandhabitsatonce,buthopedthattheycouldgraduallyacceptnewwaysofthinkingandliving.
Aftermonthsofeffort,wesawsomepositivechanges.Someresidentsnolongerinsistedontheirtraditionalbeliefsandbegantotrynewwaysoflife.Theytoldusthattheyfoundthatchangewasnotasscaryastheyhadimaginedbefore,butbroughtnewhopeandopportunities.
Despiteourprogress,manypeoplestillheldontotheiroriginalbeliefsandwaysoflife.Werealizedthatchangerequiresinnermotivationanddeterminationfromeveryone,whichwecannotprovide.Wecanonlystrivetoprovideinformationandsupport,helpingthemmoveforwardonthepathofchange.
"UntransformedII"wasachallengingmission,butalsoameaningfulexperience.Throughthisexperience,wenotonlyunderstoodthedifficultiesofchange,butalsorealizedthateveryonehastheirownpaceofgrowthandabilitytoacceptnewthings.Welearnedtheimportanceofpatienceandrespectintheprocessofunderstandingandsupportingothers.
Inourfuturework,wewillcontinuetostrivetohelpmorepeopleacceptnewwaysoflifeandthinkingpatterns.Webelievethatthroughourongoingeffortsandsupport,everyonehasthepotentialtoachievepersonaltransformationandgrowth.
